June marks Men’s Mental Health Month, a time to raise awareness, break down stigma, and start meaningful conversations about mental well-being—especially in industries like ours, where the pressure to be “tough” can too often overshadow the need for support.
Why It Matters in the Skilled Trades
The skilled trades sector—including electrical, HVAC, and fire protection—demands long hours, physical work, and mental alertness. Yet behind the grit and skill, many workers quietly face burnout, anxiety, or depression.
According to research from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, tradespeople are twice as likely to experience mental health challenges compared to workers in other fields. The Construction Industry Rehabilitation Plan (CIRP) has also reported that men in the trades are at a higher risk of suicide, with many not seeking help due to stigma or lack of resources. That’s why it’s critical to talk about it—and to act on it.
How We Support Mental Wellness at Motion Services
At Motion Services, we know that a strong team is a healthy team—physically and mentally. We take pride not only in the work we do, but in how we support one another every day.
Here’s how we’re committed to supporting mental health:
✅ Open Communication: We foster a team culture where checking in with each other is the norm. No one should feel like they’re facing challenges alone.
💬 Encouraging Conversations: Mental health isn't a taboo subject here. Whether it’s a rough day or a rough month, we encourage our team to speak up and support one another.
🌱 Wellness Resources: We regularly share tools and resources for mental wellness, stress management, and work-life balance.
🧠 On-Site Mindfulness and Safety Talks: We include mental well-being in our team meetings, reminding everyone that mental safety is just as important as physical safety.
🛠️ Flexible Support: If someone needs to step back, take a break, or have a private conversation, we respect that and offer flexibility when it’s needed.
What You Can Do
If you're part of the trades or supporting someone who is, take time this month to:
Check in with a colleague or friend
Normalize conversations about mental health
Look up local resources or helplines
Share your own experience if you're comfortable
You're Not Alone
Whether it’s a tough job or a tough season in life, you don’t have to handle it all alone. Men’s Mental Health Month reminds us that strength isn’t just about pushing through—it’s also about knowing when to reach out.
To our team, our clients, and our peers in the trades: we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re here for you.
